Motobikes Recovered
A truck driver from a Transport Company who was transporting maize to Botswana, was being paid to pick up stolen motorbikes and quad-bike parts in Pretoria Central and drive them across the border into Botswana. The aim of the perpetrators was to transport the stolen vehicles over the border as quickly as possible, while avoiding inspection at the border post.
Customs cleared the truck driver to cross the border without checking the interior of the vehicle.By this stage the stolen motorbikes had been located and it was discovered that they were being transported inside the truck. The Tracetec Recovery Team, with the invaluable assistance of the Zeerust and Botswana Police, were able to force the truck back to the border. Two stolen motorbikes were discovered inside the truck, both of which had been stripped in search of a tracking device. The Tracetec tracking system had not been discovered, enabling the vehicles to be located and recovered. The Botswana Police cancelled all papers and the truck was forced to return to South Africa, where the relevant arrests were made.
In the same incident Tracetec recovered a further 5 motorbikes (none of which were fitted with a tracking device). If it was not for the Tracetec tracking device all 7 motorbikes would have been lost.
