A BMW335i was hi-jacked during a house robbery in Savoy, Johannesburg, on 10 March 2011 at 20h53.
The recovery team patrolled the immediate area, as well as Alexandra for a few days, without success. On 19 March 2011, the vehicle’s tracking signal picked up in Malanshof. The recovery team followed the vehicle to Marlboro, the latest known location of the vehicle. Four SAPS vehicles and the SAPS helicopter joined in the search in and around Alexandra, again without success. In the days that followed, the area was patrolled intensively.
On 30 March 2011 a signal from the vehicle was picked up on the M1 Highway near Houghton. The search commenced immediately. The vehicle was spotted by the SAPS helicopter under a carport at a residence on 14th Street, Houghton the following day. Members of the Johannesburg Dog Unit searched the premises, recovering a Glock and two cz75 9mm pistols in one of the rooms. The serial numbers of all the firearms had been removed. The police and recovery team also found a number of items stolen during the robbery on 10 March. These included two computers, jewellery and a desktop computer. Enquiries were made and according to eyewitnesses, a suspect was seenleaving the premises in a silver VW Polo. This information was relayed to the SAPS and the case handed over to Const. Welham of the JHB Dog Unit.
