NISSAN TIIDA HI-JACKED AND RECOVERED ON THE SAME DAY

A Nissan Tiida, hi-jacked in Vereeniging in April, was recovered by Tracetec on the same day, thanks to the rapid response by the Tracetec recovery team. The car was on a pre-delivery test drive at lunch time, when the driver was accosted by three men and assaulted. He was thrown into the back seat of the vehicle and driven a short distance away before being forced out of the car by one of the suspects. The other two suspects drove the car away, while the first suspect waited with the test driver for a short while before fleeing the scene. The driver reported the incident to his employers and Tracetec was notified immediately.

The Tracetec tracking device in the vehicle was then activated by the Tracetec Control Centre and the SAPS notified. Approximately four hours later the vehicle was tagged on the R59 en route to Soweto. The recovery team responded immediately and began patrolling the area. The vehicle was then located in Meadowlands, just after it was hi-jacked. A chase ensured after the suspects spotted the recovery team following them. The suspects turned into an alley, abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot. The SAPS was contacted and the scene handed over to them. The recovery was made possible by the Tracetec tracking device, left undetected in the hi-jacked Tiida. The tracking device is small and easily hidden almost anywhere in the vehicle, making it very difficult to find and remove. This gives Tracetec the edge over our competitors, as other tracking devices are quickly located and destroyed, rendering the vehicles untraceable.
